Purpose: a descriptive paragraph gives the reader a visual picture of the topic. It gives a point of view about how something looks, feels, tastes, smells, or sounds. the writer's goal is to involve readers sot hat they can experience the idea or event thought the text. 

Key features: 

  • describes
  • gives impressions, ideas, or feelings about something
  • does not define
  • paints a picture for the reader, that is, it shows with words
  • uses sensory words that appeal to the five senses: hearing, taste, touch, sight, and smell. 

Uses: it can be used to do the following things:

  • give the features or characteristics of something
  • give impressions about something
  • give feelings about something. 

Hearing:

  1. Clamor: The noisy, chaotic sound of a bustling city street.
  2. Whisper: The soft, hushed sound of a secret shared between friends.
  3. Melancholic: Music that evokes a deep, sorrowful feeling.
  4. Cacophony: A harsh, discordant mix of sounds.
  5. Murmur: The gentle, indistinct sound of a distant conversation.

Taste:

  1. Savory: The rich, full-bodied flavor of a well-seasoned dish.
  2. Zesty: A sharp, tangy taste that enlivens the palate.
  3. Bitter: The sharp, acrid taste of unsweetened chocolate or certain greens.
  4. Succulent: The juicy, flavorful taste of ripe fruits.
  5. Sour: The puckering, acidic taste of a lemon or sour candy.

Touch:

  1. Velvety: The soft, smooth texture reminiscent of velvet.
  2. Rough: The coarse, abrasive feel of sandpaper.
  3. Silken: The luxurious, silky touch of fine fabric.
  4. Prickly: The sharp, tingling sensation akin to tiny needles.
  5. Pliable: The flexible, easily bendable texture of certain materials.

Sight:
